Tips & Extras

The best time to visit Mendocino County really depends on the kind of experience you’re after. Spring brings wildflowers and fewer crowds, summer offers long days (though often with that signature coastal fog), and fall is a sweet spot with warmer inland temperatures and harvest season in Anderson Valley. Even winter has its charm, with dramatic storms and whale watching along the coast. No matter the season, layers are essential coastal mornings can be misty and cool, while afternoons inland may warm up quickly. Pack a light jacket, comfortable walking shoes for trails and uneven bluffs, and something cozy for evenings by the water.

If you have a little extra time, consider adding a stop at Hendy Woods State Park, where peaceful trails wind through towering redwoods and quiet groves that feel worlds away from everything. Or, if you didn’t get the chance earlier (or just want to go again), ride the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg it’s a uniquely Mendocino experience, winding through forested landscapes with a mix of history and scenery that’s hard to replicate.
