A 5-Day Eco-Tour of Anderson Valley & Mendocino Coast

This five-day Mendocino County journey celebrates the beauty of slow travel winding from Anderson Valley’s fertile farmlands to the dramatic cliffs of the Pacific coast. You’ll stay on working farms, dine on locally grown food, tour lavender fields, sample cheeses and sip spirits distilled in the valley. By the time you reach the coast, the redwoods and sea will feel like old friends.

Day 1

Morning:
Begin your adventure in Anderson Valley with a stop at Mendocino Lavender in Boonville. Wander through rows of fragrant lavender, learn about pollinator-friendly farming and browse small-batch soaps and oils made onsite.

Afternoon:
Head a few minutes down Highway 128 to Offspring in Boonville for a fresh, seasonal lunch think wood-fired pizza, local veggies, cheese and homemade focaccia in a chic, open-air setting. After lunch, continue to The Apple Farm in Philo, your home for the next two nights. This family-run farm and inn is surrounded by orchards, gardens and a quiet creek. Settle into your cottage, then take a self-guided walk through the apple rows and kitchen gardens.

Evening:
Enjoy a leisurely Sunday dinner at The Apple Farm itself (reservations required). Their dinners feature rustic, multi-course menus celebrating the farm’s harvest and local Anderson Valley wines. End the evening with a stroll under the orchard lights and an early night.

Day 2

Morning:
Start the day with breakfast at Mosswood Market Café & Bakery in Boonville order their famous empenadas and locally roasted coffee. Then head to Pennyroyal Farm, where you’ll meet friendly goats, tour the milking parlor and creamery and enjoy a goat-cheese and wine tasting.

Afternoon:
Continue to Boonville Barn Collective, where heirloom chile peppers and specialty spices are grown and processed sustainably. Take a short farm tour to learn about seed saving and regenerative agriculture. For lunch, head to the Boonville Distillery for a tasting flight of botanical spirits and farm-to-table small plates.

Evening:
Return to The Apple Farm for a private or guided tour of the orchard and cider house, then relax or freshen up. Dinner tonight is at the Boonville Hotel, where the restaurant serves creative, hyper-seasonal dishes paired with Anderson Valley wines. Return to your cozy cottage for a quiet night amid the apple trees.

Day 3

Morning:
After breakfast and check-out at The Apple Farm, make your way west toward the coast. Stop in the charming town of Mendocino for coffee and a light breakfast at GoodLife Café & Bakery a local favorite for pastries and lattes.

Afternoon:
Continue to EarthSpoke Farm, a small-scale flower and produce farm nestled just inland. Tour the fields, chat with the growers, and, if in season, pick your own bouquet to take with you. Back in Mendocino, pick up picnic provisions at Harvest at Mendosa’s  sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit then head to Big River Beach for a relaxing picnic lunch by the waves.

Evening:
Drive a few miles south to SCP Mendocino Inn & Farm in Little River and check in. This eco-minded property blends boutique comfort with sustainability you can stroll gardens, visit the resident alpacas and chickens, and enjoy ocean views. After exploring the property, head to Terra Mar Kitchen on the property for dinner, where local food and vegetables shine. Return to your room at SCP for a peaceful night under the coastal stars.

Day 4

Morning:
Enjoy a wholesome breakfast at The Ravens Restaurant at the nearby Stanford Inn by the Sea an all-vegan, organic spot overlooking the gardens. Then visit the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens in Fort Bragg, where trails meander from manicured blooms to dramatic ocean cliffs.

Afternoon:
For lunch, stop at Princess Seafood Market in Fort Bragg for a true taste of the seacrab sandwiches, smoked fish or poke bowls. Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby tide pools at MacKerricher State Park where you can watch sea stars and anemones in their natural habitat.

Evening:
Head back to Little River to relax before dinner in Fort Bragg try North Coast Brewing Company for casual local fare and craft beer, or Café Beaujolais in Mendocino for a cozy, upscale finish. Return to SCP Mendocino Inn & Farm for your final overnight stay.

Day 5

Morning:
Wake to ocean breezes and enjoy coffee or tea from the SCP Mendocino Inn & Farm café before checking out.

Afternoon:
Drive east back toward Anderson Valley. Stop once more at the Boonville Distillery for a light lunch or a final tasting you’ll be surprised how much more you notice after a few days of slow living.

Evening (Departure):
Continue your scenic journey home, taking with you the smells of lavender, salt air, and apple blossoms.
