Wine connoisseurs will want to plan a stop to the Poor Family Vineyards, near Ukiah, to try Birdhorse Mendocino Carignan with its mulberry and tarragon nose and raspberry finish.

Redwood Valley’s Pauli Ranch is an excellent destination if you’re in the mood to try a vibrant and food-friendly Barbera: elegant, full-bodied and ready for your arrival.

Frey Vineyards

If you’re looking for organic wineries in Mendocino County, a visit to the nation’s first organic and biodynamic winery is, of course, in order. Try their Dolcetto, with its rhubarb undertones.

Nube Bianco Vineyards

At a higher elevation that many vineyards in Mendocino County, Nube Bianco gets cooler temperatures that refine the aromatics in their elegant wines. For something different, try their Arneis with its white peach nose and stone fruit and lime flavors.

Graziano Family Vineyards

One of Mendocino County’s oldest wineries, be sure and taste their Portalupi Arneis for a journey through notes of almond and apricot in a rich, complex wine.

Near the tiny village of Hopland, Fox Hill Vineyards is an oasis for anyone seeking adventurous, lesser-known Italian varietals. Try the Cortese or the Tocai Friulano.

A highlight of any Mendocino County wine tour, Navarro Vineyards makes wines that are popular with locals – always a good sign. Their Gewürztraminer is a must-try, a skin-contact wine with a light, delicious blend of lychee, peach and citrus flavors.

Hawkeye Ranch Vineyards

Located on the higher end of the Russian River drainage, the warm days and cool nights provide an ideal climate for balanced grapes. Try their Carignan Rosé for proof.
