SUMMARY:Willits Frontier Days CCPRA Professional Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:The California Cowboys Pro Rodeo Association is a group of top-ranked cowgirls and cowboys who participate on a circuit of professional-grade rodeos throughout the state. \nThe contestants participate in eight events; bareback\, saddle bronc\, team roping\, calf roping\, steer wrestling\, breakaway roping\, barrel racing and bull riding hoping to win the coveted All-Around title. After the points from all the events are tallied\, the cowgirl and cowboy with the highest cumulative scores win the title\, coordinating engraved buckle created at Outlaw Saddlery\, a wad of cold hard cash and bragging rights for the duration of the year. \nThe livestock for the events\, the bulls\, broncs and horned-alike — ‘rodeo stock’ as they are referred to in the trade — are provided by Humboldt County’s Lou Bugenig of West Coast Rodeos. Known throughout the state as premiere stock contractors\, West Coast bulls and broncs give the boys a challenge to hang on to\, and the steer and calves try to give the ladies a run for their money. \nIn addition to the eight CCPRA rodeo events\, cowboys and cowgirls from Lake\, Mendocino and Humboldt counties can compete in local team roping events as well. As the sun sets\, gather along the coast for a spectacular fireworks show by Pyro Spectacular beginning at dark. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights and jackets for the evening festivities. Parking and shuttle service will be available from City Hall throughout the event. \nThe celebration continues on Sunday\, July 5\, with the beloved Point Arena Independence Day Parade beginning at noon along Main Street/Hwy 1. SUMMARY:Sundays in the Park: Blair Crimmons & the Hookers
DESCRIPTION:Sundays in the Park Free Concert Series is the largest and most recognized community event in Mendocino County. Since 1992\, the series has thrilled the community with exceptional musical performances by artists from diverse genres including blues\, classical\, country\, salsa\, soul\, rock\, swing\, reggae and more. Each summer\, taking center stage in beautiful Todd Grove Park\, six free concerts featuring world-renowned artists as well as local talent\, entertain more than 20\,000 music fans. \nBlair Crimmins began his current music career in Atlanta\, Georgia\, with a drive to bring Ragtime and 1920’s style Dixieland Jazz to new audiences. While playing small rock clubs around the Southeast he developed a sound that is at once modern while being deeply rooted in the past. He has toured the U.S and Italy playing festivals and has opened for acts such as Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Old Crow Medicine show. A multi-instrumentalist on guitar\, banjo and piano\, Crimmins writes songs and arrangements for a classic New Orleans style horn section consisting of trumpet\, clarinet and trombone. His debut release “The Musical Stylings Of” became a college radio sensation on WRAS Atlanta making him the most requested band on the air. In 2012 Crimmins showed his musical diversity by writing and recording the full score for the independent short film “Old Man Cabbage”. The following year\, Crimmins was the critics pick for Best Song Writer of 2013 in Creative Loafing’s Best of ATL issue. His next album entitled Sing-a-longs! earned him a nomination at The Georgia Music Awards for Best Jazz Artist. After years of relentless touring the country and abroad Blair Crimmins released his 4th album of original ragtime music You Gotta Sell Something (2017)\, as well as a children’s album All Aboard (2019) and a 5th full length record featuring swinging covers of his favorite artists ranging from Louis Armstrong to David Bowie entitled “Okay Boom!” in 2021
