What the Constitution Means to Me

July 26 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
$32

Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me is a groundbreaking theatrical work that blends personal storytelling, political critique, and civic engagement. Drawing from her teenage years as a competitive debater, Schreck revisits her youthful enthusiasm for the U.S. Constitution, only to confront its historical shortcomings, particularly regarding women’s rights and systemic violence. Set in a recreated American Legion hall, the play evolves from nostalgic oratory to a poignant exploration of how the Constitution has shaped—and failed—generations of women. The performance culminates in a live debate with a teenage participant, inviting the audience to decide whether the Constitution should be upheld or abolished.

Critically acclaimed and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this Tony-nominated play is both a personal memoir and a call to action, urging viewers to reconsider the foundational document’s relevance in today’s America.
