World-renowned musicians Mads Tolling and Edward Simon will take the stage at Gualala Arts Center on Saturday, June 28, at 4 p.m. as part of the Whale & Jazz Series, presented by Fred Adler and Gualala Arts.
The concert will showcase Tolling’s interpretations of traditional Danish works alongside Simon’s Venezuelan compositions, with both artists also performing familiar jazz standards.
Tolling, an internationally acclaimed violinist and composer, is originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, and now resides in San Francisco. A two-time Grammy Award winner, he has performed with jazz legends including Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, and Paquito D’Rivera. Tolling was a longtime member of both Stanley Clarke’s band and the Turtle Island Quartet and is currently a member of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros & Wolf Pack Band.
Simon, a Venezuelan-born pianist, has earned widespread recognition for his innovative blend of jazz and Latin American folkloric sounds. A member of the SFJAZZ Collective, Simon has received numerous accolades, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and multiple composition grants. His latest album, Femeninas, Songs of Latin American Women, released in 2023, celebrates Latin America’s rich musical heritage.
