The Thirsty for Reggae Concert Series continues with one of the most respected voices in roots reggae: Luciano Messenjah, joined by special guests Irie Rockerz!
Known worldwide as “The Messenjah” and the “King of Conscious Reggae,” Luciano emerged from Jamaica’s roots-reggae revival in the early 1990s and became an international force with his powerful voice and uplifting, spiritually driven music. His career has earned him two GRAMMY nominations for Best Reggae Album, Jamaica’s Order of Distinction, and a place on Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Opening the night are Irie Rockerz, bringing their high-energy Northern California reggae sound back to The Thirsty Axe. Formed by musicians with roots in both Jamaica and Humboldt County, the band blends roots reggae with a variety of influences and a message centered around love, peace, unity and positive energy. They’ve shared stages with reggae heavyweights including Toots & The Maytals, Alborosie, Anthony B, Shaggy, Third World, Black Uhuru and Israel Vibration.
