Contemporary Pomo Artists reflect on the heartbreak of COVID and the cultural traditions that provided hope and sustained them

Ukiah’s Grace Hudson Museum will open its newest special exhibition this Friday evening, September 2. Gathering Time: Pomo Art During the Pandemic features the artwork of fifteen different contemporary Pomo artists, representing ten Pomo tribal groups that span Mendocino, Lake, and Sonoma Counties. The show encompasses multiple art forms, including painting, photography, basket weaving, regalia, jewelry, and digital media. The Museum invites the public to join in the opening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM as part of the City of Ukiah’s monthly First Friday Art Walk. The celebration will include brief remarks at around 6:00 PM and a special performance by the Hopland Pomo Dancers.
