This month, our gallery features the handwoven textiles of Jolom Mayaetik from Los Altos de Chiapas, Mexico. On view and for sale will be tapestries, table runners, shawls, tablecloths, pillows and blouses, all incorporating ancient Maya weaving designs, woven on the backstrap loom. Jolom Mayaetik, translates to “Women Who Weave”. In 2018, the San Francisco Airport Museum hosted a show “Empowering Threads: Textiles of Jolom Mayaetik” featuring the weavings by the women from this town.
