Opening reception at Coast Highway Art Collective

The opening reception at CHAC on Saturday, May 9 from 3 – 7pm is a collaborative exhibit by the artists of CampoAmoreOborus, a local artist group connected to property of Point Arena artist Blake More. The exhibit is mixed media by artists Rudy Gallager, collage/mixed media; Emily Tam, sculpture and jewelry; Russell Wieland, photography; and Blake More, mosaics, paintings, wall and hanging mobiles. The exhibit is open from May 7 through May 30.
More says her work is inspired by her life philosophy that all things are an embodiment of art, and therefore deserve to be treated as such. She uses everyday items, recycled objects, driftwood, bits of nature, random finds and tossed out treasures as much as possible. “Every surface is ripe for expression, More explains. “Noticing is in the details. I like to make hanging things, mosaics, murals, collages, mixed media, box words, and I love to make something out of something that was destined for the rubbish bin or the dump. In any canvas you see most likely also contains a work some artist or collector abandoned in a thrift store for me to find. I love collaboration.”
Tam’s work is an experiment with light, form, and elements of nature to create evocative, sensual, and surreal works of art. Exploring themes of femininity, rebirth, creation, and seasonal cycles, she creates art as a reclamation of power and identity.
Gallager creates mixed media collage using primarily found, free, and stolen materials. He is most inspired by paint splatters, burn marks, construction waste, and crates of old magazines by the side of the road. Gallager says he follows an intuitive process, allowing his foraged materials to guide him towards “an expression of truths that my conscious mind may not even comprehend.” What is content without context? To Gallager, layers of meaning dissolve when old images are juxtaposed in new ways. Foreground becomes background. Subject and object blur together. “Perhaps everything we think we know and recognize can be cut, ripped, rescued, rearranged, and reimagined.”

Wieland says he is drawn to surfaces that carry time within them. The texture tells the story.
His photographic work focuses on weathered walls, fragments of places shaped by sun, salt, and human presence. These surfaces become unintentional paintings, where color, erosion, and repair create compositions that feel both accidental and precise. By isolating these moments, he transforms the familiar into something immersive and abstract.

“My practice moves between photography and painting, guided by an interest in layering, both physical and temporal, explains Wieland. “Whether through the slow accumulation of texture in mixed media, or the way light reveals hidden dimensions in infrared landscapes, I search for something numinous just beneath the surface. I am more interested in revealing quiet transformations and an underlying ethereal presence than in documenting reality as it first appears. These works invite a closer look into material, into process, into time, and into the subtle beauty of what is often overlooked.
