SF Chronicle: "Ready, Set, Go: Skunk Train to add Art Car"
Mendocino County's valiant Skunk is celebrating its 125th birthday this year with the addition of an Art Car, adorned by commissioned Northern California artists. The Skunk hauled lumber through the redwoods between Fort Bragg and Willits in the 19th and early 20th centuries, helping to rebuild San Francisco after the Big One, and has carried tourists on the same route since the 1960s. Beginning in mid-May, the Art Car will run for special events and for passengers paying a premium on regular round trips between Fort Bragg and Northspur. Mimosas and pastries will be served on morning trips; wine and beer tastings will be offered in the afternoons.
Vitals: Mid-May (projected May 15), 10 a.m. $70 round trip (adults only). Skunk Train, 100 W. Laurel St., Fort Bragg. (866) 457-5865, www.skunktrain.com.
