Beach Tomato: Beach of the Week: Manchester State Beach
Don your sunnies, get behind the wheel and take a drive through the scenic country roads that surround the picturesque Point Arena to reach the epic shoreline of Manchester State Beach. Set within a protected beachfront within Northern California's Mendocino State, expect the beach to welcome you with soft sandy dunes scattered with driftwood, effervescent waves and stretching ocean vista's that appear to disappear into the sky beyond.
Not a state to do things on a small scale, California's dedication to the ‘big is better school' of thought translates as much to it's film sets as it does to the sweeping natural coastline that line it. Up there with the best of them is Manchester State Beach which harbours waves that appear that bit more dramatic than your average, cliffs that seem that bit more inimitable and vistas that stretch just that bit further into the horizon. This wild and windswept beach is framed with a backdrop of crashing waves and has a filmic quality that wouldn't look out of place in a Bronte novel, (it's even complete with grazing sheep to the rear) but let's not forget we are in Cali, so things are a little more tanned and a lot less gothic.
