Over thirty years in the making, what was once a dream for a community center focused on fitness, education and togetherness, is now an impressive reality. Run on 75% solar power, the CV Starr Community Center located in the heart of Fort Bragg, CA, has something for everyone.  

If you are looking for a place to take the family, let your dog frolic and play off-leash, or get in a great workout while visiting the area, CV Starr is the place to come. At this four-acre destination there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for you to enjoy.

Outdoors you will find an off-leash dog park, with designated areas for small and larger breeds alike. There are picnic and barbecue areas, even bocce ball courts. The newly opened 10,000 square foot skate park is the perfect place for skaters of all ages to spend the day.

The indoor facilities offer a myriad of activities and classes. The Harry and Sigrid Spath aquatic center boasts three heated swimming pools for you to choose from, depending on your fitness and recreational needs. The pools use state of the art filtration technology so that only the minimal amount of chlorine is used. This means less irritation for those who are chlorine sensitive. The eight lane Olympic sized pool is perfect for competitive and fitness oriented swimming. It also features a low rise diving board for both fun and practice. Go with the flow in the Lazy River resistance channel or walk against the current to build muscle and rehabilitate injuries in this zero impact environment. Kayaking classes are also taught in our pool, should you want to learn proper form and safety before braving our local waters. The leisure pool, which is kept at a relaxing 85 degrees, has a gradual beach entry design so that both young and old alike can enter without need of handrails. With its sprinklers, bubblers and showers the recreational pool keeps kids and adults splashing and playing all day. And of course, the 146 foot long twister waterslide, whose bright colors cheerfully fills the aquatorium, drops you off with a splash into the plunge pool. You can get giddily dizzy just climbing the winding staircase to the top of the slide! Each area is carefully monitored by CV Starr’s well-trained staff of Red Cross certified lifeguards.

CV Starr also has a cardio and weight training room : elliptical trainers, stairmasters, recumbent stationary bikes, treadmills and an array of weight machines allow you to get full upper and lower body workouts. Adjacent to the cardio and weight room is the fitness studio which features Spin class, Zumba and Bootcamp workouts, yoga and dance. You are welcome to drop-in on any of these classes. The center also offers enrichment classes for adults and children: arts and crafts, music, dance, mask-making.
