Coast Guard House Historic Inn & Cottages
Kevin and Mia Gallagher own and operate the Coast Guard House Historic Inn in Arena Cove. Their beautiful inn was built in 1901 as Life-Saving Station 314 with its mission being rescuing merchant seamen in distress. Called "surfmen" these brave fellows went out in any weather to assist as best they could ships that had run into trouble during one or another of the frequent storms that made these vessels so vulnerable during the Age of Sail. Average men performing extraordinary tasks and regarding it as just part of an average day's work.
As Kevin and Mia see it, their mission today is to provide personalized attention to their guests in a rejuvenating and peaceful environment. They strive to offer their guests a restful night after an active day and, in the morning, present them with a tempting, full course breakfast. From dinner reservations to arranging a delightful massage, they can help you put together a perfect Life-Saving getaway on the beautiful Mendocino Coast. Their inn is just steps away from the wharf in Arena Cove - the historic heart of town - and the perfect base from which to explore the region around Point Arena.
The Coast Guard House's location - close to the Point Arena Lighthouse, Manchester Beach, the Anderson Valley wineries and redwoods, Bowling Ball Beach and the Arena Theater - make these accommodations, whether it be one of the four rooms in the main inn or one of the wonderful ocean view cottages, with whirlpool tubs and fireplaces, the perfect place to stay when visiting the Mendocino coast.
