Lake Pillsbury

The largest lake within the borders of Mendocino National Forest, Lake Pillsbury covers 2,280 acres and has 31 miles of shoreline. There are several developed campgrounds with boat ramps and picnic areas - - there's even a small resort, a grocery store, and a boat rental outfit. If you're a canoeing fisher, there's good trout and bass throughout the lake.

Montgomery Woods is one of the more remote of California's 31 redwood parks. It is a perfect place for a picnic, and tables are provided for that purpose.

A trail follows Montgomery Creek upstream to five separate redwood groves that have never been logged. The trail is about three miles long, laid out in a shallow loop that takes about an hour to travel.

The Solar Living Institute is a 501 (c) 3 educational nonprofit.  Classes cover sustainable subjects ranging from landscaping for bees to solar PV installation.  School groups visit the 12-acre demonstration site (The Solar Living Center) on environmental field trips.  We also host a 7 month internship program that helps young adults find a green career path.
