Roots of Motive Power began in 1982 as a loosely organized group of friends in the timber industry who shared a love of local history and the antique machinery that shaped it. Working closely with the Mendocino County Museum, Roots volunteers embarked on an enthusiastic course of acquistion and restoration.

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens has partnered with the Arts Council of Mendocino County to present annual exhibitions of sculpture on the grounds of the Gardens. Drawing on the wealth of regional artistic talent, the Sculptre Gallery primarily features the work of California artists.  All sculptures in the exhibit are for sale.

The Solar Living Institute is a 501 (c) 3 educational nonprofit.  Classes cover sustainable subjects ranging from landscaping for bees to solar PV installation.  School groups visit the 12-acre demonstration site (The Solar Living Center) on environmental field trips.  We also host a 7 month internship program that helps young adults find a green career path.
