Getting to Mendocino County from points throughout California and the West Coast is easy. It must be said that the car is the most convenient and effective way of getting around Mendocino County. Here is a travel chart to help you plan your trip to Mendocino County.
From San Francisco To The Northern Mendocino Coast (155 miles):
- Go North on Van Ness Ave. to US 101 (across the Golden Gate Bridge)
- Go North on Hwy. 101 for 87 miles, through Santa Rosa to State Rte. 128 at Cloverdale, Ca
- Go Northwest on State Rte. 128, through the Anderson Valley Wine Country, for 52 miles to State Rte. 1
- Go North on State Rte. 1 for 9 miles through Albion & Little River to the Village of Mendocino
- If you are headed to Fort Bragg, Ca, travel and additional 10 miles North on State Rte. 1 (total distance 165 miles)
Alternate Route to the Northern Mendocino Coast from San Francisco through Inland Mendocino (172 miles):
- Go North on Van Ness Ave. to US 101 (across the Golden Gate Bridge)
- Head North on Hwy. 101 for 133 miles through Hopland and Ukiah to Willits, Ca
- In Willits, turn Left at Hwy. 20 traveling West for 33 miles to State Rte. 1
- Turn Right (North) at State Rte. 1 if headed to Fort Bragg, Ca
- Turn Left (South) at State Rte. 1 if headed to the Village of Mendocino and the South Coast
From Sacramento to Ukiah, California (145 miles):
- Go North on I-5 for 59 miles
- Take Exit 578 at Williams, Ca
- Turn West onto CA-20 toward Clear Lake/Colusa. Travel 79 miles to Hwy.101
- Merge onto Hwy. 101 South to Ukiah
- Merge on Hwy. 101 North if headed to Willits and the Mendocino Coast
From Sacramento to the Mendocino Coast (188 miles):
- Go North on I-5 for 59 miles
- Take Exit 578 to CA-20 at Williams, Ca
- Turn West onto CA-20 toward Clear Lake/Colusa. Travel 79 miles to Hwy.101
- Merge on Hwy. 101 North to Willits, Ca
- In Willits, turn Left at Hwy. 20 traveling West for 33 miles to State Rte. 1
- Turn Right (North) at State Rte. 1 if headed to Fort Bragg, Ca
- Turn left (South) at State Rte. 1 if headed to the Village of Mendocino and the South Coast
San Francisco to the South Coast (125 miles):
- Take Hwy. 101 North 56 miles to River Road just North of Santa Rosa, Ca
- Turn Left onto River Road and travel 17 miles to State Rte. 1 (Please note: River Road turns into Hwy.11 at Guerneville)
- Turn Right (North) onto State Rte.1 through Jenner for 38 miles (about one hour) to Gualala, Ca and the South Coast
San Francisco/ Bay Area to the Mendocino Coast along the Historic Pacific Coast Highway 1 (185 miles):
- Take Hwy. 101 North 56 miles from the Golden Gate bridge to River Road just North of Santa Rosa, Ca
- Turn Left onto River Road and travel 17 miles to the historic Hwy. 1 (Please note: River Road turns into Hwy.116 at Guerneville)
- Turn Right (North) onto Hwy.1 through Jenner for 38 miles (about one hour) to Gualala, Ca
- Continue North along Hwy.1 from Gualaal for an additional 50 miles (about an hour and fifteen minutes) to the Village of Mendocino
- Continue North along Hwy.1 from Mendodcino for an additional 10 miles to Fort Bragg, Ca
