Mendocino County is located just a couple of hours north of the San Francisco Bay Area and west of Sacramento on the majestic North Coast of California. The County is extensive, comprising nearly 4,000 square miles of exceptionally beautiful and extremely varied terrain.

Discover Mendocino County, where Pacific coastal villages, the great redwood forest and America’s Greenest Wine Region™ beckon you to escape to a slower pace. Come sit by the fire, savor a delicious Mendocino vintage, stare up into a mighty Redwood tree or watch migrating whales from the porch of one of our unique inns.  Mendocino County is just a couple hours north of San Francisco where you’ll feel so far away from it all.

Mendocino County features some of the most renowned scenic drives in the world. From north and south, the Pacific Coast Highway 1 runs all but a few miles of the length of the County’s coastline, connecting us to San Francisco and beyond.  Inland, U.S. Highway 101, also called the Redwood Highway, is a beautiful, historic journey through the lush vineyards of Sonoma and Mendocino County to Hopland, Ukiah and Willits.

Visitors coming from the east of the County can enter via one of several routes. California Highway 20 bends around pretty Clear Lake on the north and beautiful Lake Mendocino, and then intersects with Highway 101 at Calpella, just north of Ukiah.  California Highway 53 loops south of Clear Lake from Highway 20, connects with CA 29/175 and then continues on Highway 175 to Hopland.

San Francisco and Oakland International airports serve as your international gateways from the south, while Sacramento International Airport serves as a gateway from the east. The Charles M. Schulz airport acts as a regional gateway in Sonoma, and is just 25 miles south of the Mendocino County line. There are also eight small airfields around the County and Greyhound and Amtrak bus services to Willits and Ukiah.

Mendocino Transit Authority (MTA) is the County's public transportation system.  MTA provides local transportation services for almost the entire county.  MTA also provides transportation  to Sonoma County daily where connections can be made to and from the Bay Area airports at Sonoma County airport and to Golden Gate Transit for service to and from San Francisco at the Second Street Transit Mall in Santa Rosa.  For further information, call 1-800-696-4MTA or visit
